Lizzy  > Home > Moving Diamond Hill School
Sheridan County District 101 - an original 100 year old one room school house. Donated to Dobby's Frontier Town by the farmers and ranchers who went to school here and did not want to see it destroyed. We moved it 22 miles and it how has a new home where it can tell it's story.

Lizzy > This old Girl has been moved several times in its lifetime and has been added on to as the need arose. The small entrance area is home to a new water heater, bathrooms and a coat closet. The main section is the big one room school.
Lizzy > The door towards the right is the back door and is facing the playground. At one time there was a wood stove right in the middle where you see the hole in the roof but it was later replaced with a gas heater and a chimney up the back wall.
Lizzy > All the surrounding cement had to be broken up and buried as this will revert to farm ground once again.
Lizzy > Digging the hole for the cement. It helped that this was once the location of one of the Outhouses, so the ground was soft
Lizzy > It took 2 big fork lifts to hoist this Old Girl up on her side. Lifting has to be precise so that nothing breaks. Teamwork at its finest.
Lizzy > O.K. one side is up, now, we lift up the other side and block it.
Lizzy > Now the remains of the old foundations are cleared out to allow the flat bed trailer to drive underneath the building.
Lizzy > The entire side sill plate was rotten and had to be replaced before the building could be moved. This move took 2 years to complete.
Lizzy > Almost setting on the trailer. Now to head 22 miles southwest and its new home.
